The father of the Afghan lieutenant who shot three Australian soldiers dead on Saturday says his son was not a member of the Taliban.
Darwish Khan shot 10 Australians and several Afghans when he reportedly opened fire with a machine gun from close range after a routine parade in Kandahar Province.
The 25-year-old Afghan National Army lieutenant was then shot dead by two Australian soldiers.
In an exclusive interview with the ABC, Khan's father Zarif Alkozai offered his condolences to the victims' families.
