"Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her party would not stay with the United Progressive Alliance central government if the price of oil and cooking gas was raised again.
"We will not wait. If the price of petroleum products and cooking gas is increased again we will not stay with this government," said Banerjee, after her meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Kolkata.
She made the statement minutes after terming as "routine" her meeting with Mukherjee in the wake of her party's threat to withdraw support to the Congress-led UPA government over the petrol price hike.
"Today we had a routine meeting with Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Governor M.K. Narayanan," Banerjee said after coming out of the meeting held at Raj Bhawan in Kolkata.
Banerjee's meeting with the Union Finance Minister was held as Trinamool Congress MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi to express their concern over the price hike in petrol by Rs.1.80 on Thursday."
