"Little, whose wife died last year, had been battling illness for a long period before passing away in his bed this morning.

The country singer enjoyed a string of hits from 1959 onwards including Danny Boy, Royal Telephone, El Paso, Baby Blue and One Road, written by Bee Gee Barry Gibb.

He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1999, following the success of the album Messenger

That album saw Little cover songs by a new generation of Australian musicians including Paul Kelly, the Church, Crowded House and Nick Cave."
