"SPRINT star Matt Goss has capped a stunning year by taking out the state's most coveted individual award, the Tasmanian Athlete of the Year.
The cyclist was crowned the 2011 winner at Wrest Point last night after edging out five other worthy candidates.
In what has been a breakthrough season for the 25-year-old, Goss not only confirmed himself as arguably the best sprinter in the land but has firmed for an Olympic gold medal in London next year.
He was beaten by half a wheel at the road World Cycling Championships in Copenhagen in September, and narrowly missed a Tour de France stage victory on debut only months earlier."
