SUNDAY TRIBUNE - Same-sex marriage Bizarre? Human rights?, Dec 04, 2011

"The threat by Britain to stop aids to African nations that violated gay rights has been rebuffed by many African countries. Nigeria’s Senate has passed a bill which outlaws same-sex union in whatever guise. KEHINDE OYETIMI while writing on the controversies and politics around the issue asks why Europe, particularly Britain is intent on ramming gay rights down the throat of African countries.
THEY had come consequent upon the authority of a greater being. They were not men of that city; their carriage, their conduct and the charisma which they exuded stood in every way higher than the citizens of that place. As they approached the gate of that city, they looked impatient, yet were polite. Lot, relative to Abraham, sat at the entrance of the city. He saw the two visitors and offered to help; he was oblivious of the men he wanted to help."

TIMES OF INDIA - Mayans didn’t say world will end in 2012, Dec 04, 2011

"PALENQUE (MEXICO): If you are worried the world will end next year based on the Mayan calendar, relax : the end of time is still far off.
So say Mayan experts who want to dispel any belief that the ancient Mayans predicted a world apocalypse next year. The Mayan calendar marks the end of a 5,126 year old cycle around Dec 12, 2012 which should bring the return of Bolon Yokte, a Mayan god associated with war and creation.
Author Jose Arguelles called the date "the ending of time as we know it" in a 1987 book that spawned an army of Mayan theorists , whose speculations on a cataclysmic end abound online. But specialists meeting at this ancient Mayan city in southern Mexico say it merely marks the termination of one period of creation and the beginning of another. "

SMH Australia - Assange in court for final battle against extradition, Dec 04, 2011

Julian Assange.
"WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange will today make what could be a last throw of the legal dice to avoid extradition to Sweden to face sex crime allegations. He will ask to have his case taken to Britain's Supreme Court. If they say no, he could be headed to Stockholm within days.
The 40-year-old Australian behind the secret-spilling website has spent almost a year on bail fighting extradition for questioning over claims of rape and molestation made by two Swedish women.
For his case to be considered by Britain's Supreme Court, Mr Assange's lawyers must persuade two High Court judges that it raises a question of ''general public importance''. His lawyers will seek to argue that the European arrest warrant is invalid because it was not issued by the correct authority and that he should not be extradited because he has not been charged with any crime.

FHM cover with Veena Malik
"A row has erupted over an image of Pakistani actress Veena Malik sporting the initials ISI on her arm, with FHM India insisting it is not fake.
It has caused a sensation in Pakistan for both the nudity and the initials of Pakistan's controversial Inter-Services Intelligence spy agency.
Pakistani media have quoted a spokesman for Ms Malik as saying she never took part in such a photoshoot.
But FHM India's editor told the BBC that nothing had been doctored.
"We have video footage of the shoot as well as emails from Veena about how she's looking forward to the cover," Kabeer Sharma told the BBC's Nosheen Abbas in Islamabad.
"The idea to have ISI written on her arm was mine, and it was Veena's idea to have it in block letters," he added.
He said that the image was intended to be playful, saying that: "In India we joke about this... if anything goes wrong... we say the ISI must be behind this.""

PAKISTAN Today - And then there was a Teesra, Dec 04, 2011

Saeed Ajmal
"There is much joy to be found in Warne’s wizardry, Saqlain’s doosra and Swaan’s subtleties but for me personally, nothing comes close to watching a genuine fast bowler in action bowling with his tail up, not even a Mark Waugh on-drive. Shoaib Akhtar summed the visceral and almost surreal feeling quite succinctly when he said, “It gets your blood going, the adrenaline is pumping, you're in a fight. To me that's what cricket is all about.”"

A coalition of 53 leading anti-trafficking experts and organizations have sent a letter to Village Voice Media demanding the immediate and permanent removal of the Adult section of its subsidiary’s Web site Backpage.com where advertisements placed by others have resulted in the sex trafficking of women and girls.
The coalition’s call today, on the United Nations’ International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, is seen as an action that would immediately address and deter future trafficking by individuals that utilize internet-based advertising as part of their activity. The coalition targeted the UN’s observance day for comment because of its view that this sex trafficking is considered by many to be the symbolic equivalent of slavery."

HAWAII Reporter - Accused Child Pornographer Nearing Trial; Video Evidence May Be Dismissed, Dec 04, 2011

"BY JIM DOOLEY - Simon Jasper McCarty, a British citizen who has been held without bail here for more than three years on child pornography charges, is finally scheduled to go on trial next month, but there are still questions about whether prosecutors will be able to present the most damning evidence against him.
That evidence is more than 60 videos depicting McCarty having sex with pre-pubescent boys in the United Kingdom and Nepal, according to federal court records. McCarty reportedly helped operate an orphanage in Nepal.
The videos were stored on a computer external hard drive packed inside McCarty’s luggage that was seized by law enforcement agents after he was initially detained at the airport in Hilo Aug. 5, 2008.
Lengthy delays in the case to date have been caused by a continuing court dispute over the legality of searches of McCarty’s bags and the seizure of what was found in his luggage."
