SINGER UNIVERSE - Best Vocalist Of The Month Winner: Amanda Earhart, Dec 08, 2011

Amanda Earhart
"Amanda Earhart, a promising pop/rock singer and songwriter based in Dallas, TX, has won the December SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song “Tell Me What You Want" (co-written by Lyn Olson). This song will be featured on her upcoming 6-song EP, which Earhart will release independently early next year (2012).
“Tell Me What You Want” is a strong blues/rock number which has a contemporary edge to it. If Kelly Clarkson or Beyonce sang a song which was more organic-sounding, it might resemble this cut. This song provides an excellent showcase for Earhart's clear, powerful vocals. Her voice is impressive throughout, particularly when it soars into a higher range later in the song. "Tell Me What You Want" was expertly produced by Lyn Olson, who played guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. Earhart also played keyboards, and sang all the vocal parts."

SINGER UNIVERSE - Best Song Of The Month Winner: Shanay Holmes, Dec 08, 2011

Shanay Holmes
"Shanay Holmes, a promising pop/R&B/dance singer/songwriter based in London, U.K., has won the SongwriterUniverse “Best Song Of The Month” Contest for December, for her song "I Can See You" (co-written by Chris Steward). This song has won for its demo version which was submitted; a fully produced master will be featured on Holmes' upcoming debut album, which will be released next year.
“I Can See You” is an acoustic/pop midtempo cut which has a soulful flavor to it. The song features an articulate lyric theme, about being hopeful and positive while being honest about yourself. "I Can See You" has an appealing melody, especially in the chorus, and the arrangement builds momentum throughout the song. The recording provides a fine showcase for Holmes' clear, expressive lead & background vocals. It was produced by Stewart Sibley and Chris Steward, who co-wrote this song with Holmes."

HERALD SUN - Fashion lovers queue all night for Topshop opening, Dec 08, 2011

Jessica Gomes
"Some fashion enthusiasts had camped out for as long as 17 hours when the store finally opened about 9.50am.
But it took just minutes for the entire queue to pile inside.
The first 20 people each got a $100 voucher to get their hands on items ranging from sequined hot shorts to tigerprints and faux-fur.
Earlier, 21-year-old Harlene Del Rosario said she arrived about 6pm yesterday to claim her place at the front of the queue.
"The clothes are unique, just my style," said Ms Del Rosario, from Sunshine.
"I love it. I read about Zara - the girls came at midnight there, so I wanted to be first in line for Topshop.
"I just sat here all night (and) chatted to the girls behind me. Surprisingly I'm still okay.""

NZ HERALD - 'I was ready to quit music' - Dave Grohl, Dec 08

""Camper vans are great," says Dave Grohl, stretching out in the back of one in a car park in Los Angeles. "Great," he says, "until you have to empty the f***ing tank."
He's referring to the vehicle's toilet, and having mentioned it, immediately screws up his face - grimace distorting the mouth-framing goatee, frown sending out ropes of shoulder-length hair from behind his ears. It's not that the 42-year-old is imagining having to clear out any sewage himself.
As frontman and founder of Foo Fighters (30 million records sold) and the former drummer in Nirvana, Grohl could whistle and be encircled, quickly, by memento-hungry fans only too keen to carry off a vat of his poop; and besides he bribed the rental company with free gig tickets."

But he became emotional as he opened up about spending the holidays without his beloved mother, who died in 2000.
''(I'll be) eating and drinking too much with friends and family. Celebrating life and remembering those that did, but can no longer,'' Gervais wrote."

"A country used to celebrating the lives of the world's oldest people was this week marking the passing of another notable centenarian, when the planet's oldest dog died in Japan.

The animal suddenly refused to eat and appeared to be having difficulty breathing after many years of good health, owner Yumiko Shinohara said, according to Kyodo News.
The canine died in the early afternoon, watched by his owner.
"He had been with me for 26 years, and he was like my child," Shinohara, 42, told the Yomiuri Shimbun.
