Pioneer of rap reggae, King Stitt, dies at 72 « Repeating Islands, Feb 01, 2012

"King Stitt, a pioneer in rap reggae, died Tuesday in his Caribbean homeland of Jamaica, the Associated Press reports. He was 72.
Stitt died at his home in the capital of Kingston after a long fight with prostate cancer and diabetes, said Jamaican musicologist Bunny Goodison, who was a close friend to the performer for more than 50 years. Stitt had recently been discharged from a public hospital."

"Dr. Richard Olney, an internationally renowned researcher who dedicated his life to finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease, has died after his own eight-year battle with the disease. He was 64.
Olney died Friday at his Marin County home, UC San Francisco announced. He had spent nearly his entire 25-year research career at UC San Francisco, the last 18 investigating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS."

"PHILADELPHIA — Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, the retired Roman Catholic archbishop of Philadelphia whose competence to testify in an upcoming church sexual abuse trial was being hotly debated in court, died in his sleep late on Tuesday, the church said.
The cardinal, 88, led the Philadelphia archdiocese, the sixth largest in the United States, from 1988 to 2003. Church spokeswoman Donna Farrell said Bevilacqua died at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, the traditional home for the leaders of the Philadelphia archdiocese, where he had lived since retirement."

The New York-based travel magazine conducted an online survey last year to discover the world's top new landmarks.
Some 60 landmarks were rated in different categories -- skyscrapers; parks and public spaces; museums; bridges; sports and performance venues as well as classic landmarks.
New landmarks are defined as landmarks opened after 1996, while classic landmarks are those opened in or before 1996. "
