Twenty-five thousand people gathered in the center of Moscow yesterday in near-freezing temperatures and dispersed after 6 p.m. without detentions or violence, police said. Several thousand demonstrated in St. Petersburg and more than 15,000 in about 30 other cities across the world’s biggest country by area, RIA Novosti reported."

"SARAJEVO: Bosnian war victims’ associations on Friday hailed Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut, a love story set in wartime Bosnia, as an objective and sincere portrayal of the inter-ethnic conflict.
“This movie is deeply moving for the victims who experienced all of these things,”
Murat Tahirovic, who heads an association of prisoners of war, told AFP after seeing it in a special screening in Sarajevo.

Austin, Texas television station KXAN reports Spears slipped and fell after stepping out of his motor home in Nashville Thursday night, according to his friend Dee Pearce. He was found dead, due to exposure. He was 62."

"MANILA — A four-seater cargo plane crashed onto a crowded Philippine slum on Saturday, sparking a fire that killed 13 people and left five missing and at least another 20 injured, officials said.
The crash and the resulting blaze killed both the pilot, co-pilot, and their lone passenger while the other fatalities are thought to be residents of the shanty town, said chief inspector Wilson Tana, a fire investigator.
"The fire department got here quickly, but we had trouble because the passageways are so narrow," he told AFP.
"There might be more bodies," he added as firefighters cleared away blackened sheets of corrugated iron in search of bodies that might have been pinned underneath.
At least five other residents of the burnt shanties are missing, Tana said."

"Thirty people including 10 children died in a horrific road accident today as they drove home for their Christmas holiday in South Africa.
Police said most of the victims were killed instantly when their overloaded minibus collided with a truck on a motorway.
Spokesman Mmako Mophiring said it was believed the group had been travelling for their festive break when the accident happened around 3am near the town of Harrismith in the country's Free State province."
