But it took just minutes for the entire queue to pile inside.
The first 20 people each got a $100 voucher to get their hands on items ranging from sequined hot shorts to tigerprints and faux-fur.
Earlier, 21-year-old Harlene Del Rosario said she arrived about 6pm yesterday to claim her place at the front of the queue.
"The clothes are unique, just my style," said Ms Del Rosario, from Sunshine.
"I love it. I read about Zara - the girls came at midnight there, so I wanted to be first in line for Topshop.
"I just sat here all night (and) chatted to the girls behind me. Surprisingly I'm still okay.""
